Happy Days! Crunchi’s New Shattered Peptide Mascara Is Here

Happy days! The wait is finally over. Crunchi’s new Shattered Peptide Mascara is officially here, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!

So what is a peptide mascara? It’s a mascara that does two jobs at once. It coats your lashes for length, volume and lift, like any good mascara should, and it also carries conditioning ingredients, including a peptide, that help your lashes look and feel softer and healthier over time.

Now, a little trivia before we go any further. How long do you think it took Crunchi to develop this one mascara? One year? Two? According to Crunchi, it took five years! That tells you something about how seriously they took it.

Why Is It Called “Shattered”?

Like me, you may be wondering why Crunchi chose the name Shattered for its newest mascara. I certainly was!

During our first training on the ingredients in Shattered Peptide Mascara, I got my answer. Melanie Petschke, Crunchi’s Chief of Research and Development, told us she wanted this mascara to be “absolutely earth-shatteringly phenomenal!”

She didn’t set out to make one more clean mascara. She wanted to make THE mascara, one that performs beautifully and is thoughtfully, carefully formulated with clean ingredients. Now that’s something worth getting excited about!

What Does “Peptide” Mean in Mascara?

Let’s have a quick vocabulary lesson. What is a peptide, anyway?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Think of them as little building blocks for proteins, including keratin, which is the very protein your lashes are made of.

In mascara, certain peptides are added to help condition your lashes and support their healthy-looking appearance over time. Paired with other conditioning ingredients, they help lashes look and feel softer, smoother and more resilient while you go about your everyday makeup routine.

In other words, every time you put on your mascara, your lashes get a little care too. I love that!

Here’s a Question for You: Why Does Mascara Flake?

Have you ever looked in the mirror mid-afternoon and found little black specks under your eyes? I think we all have!

The culprit is often the “film formers.” Those are the ingredients that create a thin coating so mascara holds onto your lashes. If that coating is too brittle, it cracks every time your lashes move. Crunchi pairs a blend of film formers with its wax blend so the coating stays flexible, and according to Crunchi, Shattered is made to resist water, flaking and smudging all day.

If you’d like the deeper dive into how the formula and brush work together, Melanie wrote a wonderful article on the Crunchi site: What to Look for in a Mascara.

Is Shattered Safe for Sensitive Eyes?

This is the question I care about most. Anything worn this close to your eyes needs to be gentle, and a mascara should never sting.

According to Crunchi, Shattered Peptide Mascara is fragrance-free, ophthalmologist-tested, and clinically assessed as suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

If you have a known sensitivity, please look over the full ingredient list first, and of course, reach out to me with any questions. I’m always happy to go through it with you.

My Fun Tip: Take Before-and-After Lash Photos!

Want to make trying your new mascara even more fun? Take before-and-after pictures!

Here’s what I suggest:

  • Day 1: Take a clear photo of your lashes before you start, and be sure to date it.

  • Week 3: Take another photo in similar lighting, from the same angle.

  • Week 6: Snap one more picture and compare all three!

You’ll have a fun side-by-side comparison to look back on. Individual results do vary, but documenting your experience is a great way to see how your lashes look along the way.

And if you’re comfortable sharing your pictures, I’d love to see them! With your permission, I enjoy featuring before-and-after photos on my website and in my newsletter. Your experience might even inspire someone else to try something new.

Is It Time to Rethink Your Mascara?

I know changing your mascara can be hard, especially when you’ve already found one you love. We all have our tried-and-true favorites!

But I’ve noticed something. More and more of my clients are paying attention to the ingredients in their everyday beauty products. They want to make informed choices about what goes into their makeup bags, and many of them appreciate a little guidance along the way.

Here’s my color-consultant side talking, too. Well-defined lashes frame your eyes beautifully, and they look even better when you’re wearing your best colors. If you’ve never had your colors done, a Color Analysis is a wonderful place to start.

What’s Coming in November

If you’ve ever wondered which mascara ingredients you might want to pay closer attention to, I have more to share! Stay tuned for my November blog, where we’ll take a closer look at mascara ingredients and what to consider when building a beauty routine that fits your personal preferences.

Until then, enjoy discovering Crunchi’s new Shattered Peptide Mascara. Here’s to beautiful lashes and feeling good about the products we choose!
