Does TruAura Beauty Have a Sunscreen?
Does TruAura Beauty Have a Sunscreen?
This is a question I get asked a lot—especially as we head into the sunnier seasons. The short answer is: no, TruAura Beauty does not currently offer a sunscreen.
But don’t worry—Gary Jones, our Chief of Product Research & Development, shared some great insights on how to choose a quality sunscreen, and how TruAura products can still support your skin health in the sun.
Step One: Strengthen Your Skin’s Barrier
Your first line of defense against sun damage? A healthy, well-supported skin barrier. That’s why using TruAura’s 4-Core Skincare System morning and night is so important. Our formulas are:
- Microbiome-friendly
- Infused with pre- and probiotics
- Packed with anti-aging peptides
Not only do they protect and strengthen your skin, but they also help repair damage caused by sun exposure. That’s a win-win in my book!
Step Two: Don’t Overlook Your Foundation
Here’s a little-known fact: the titanium dioxide in TruAura foundations acts as a mineral sunscreen. While we haven’t officially tested our foundation for SPF, the presence of titanium dioxide does offer some natural protection.
Important Note: Since we haven’t tested for SPF, I don’t make any official sun protection claims about our foundation.
Sunscreens Gary Recommends
We asked Gary for his personal take on clean sunscreens, and here’s what he shared:
- Native – A clean, well-formulated sunscreen option.
- Trader Joe’s Sunscreens – Gary gave both the face stick and aerosol spray a thumbs up. He noted:
“Both of these formulas are pretty good. The aerosol has some ingredients we don’t typically use, but nothing to be concerned about. The face stick is especially clean. I’d feel comfortable using or recommending either.”
You can also find clean options like Kinship, Native, and Caribbean Sol (available at caribbean-sol.com) or on Amazon.
Why Sunscreen Matters: Skin Cancer Statistics
While researching sun protection, I came across an eye-opening article from the Cancer Center (May 9, 2023, by City of Hope). Here are some takeaways that really stood out:
- Several landlocked states—including Vermont, Utah, Minnesota, Idaho, Kentucky, and Colorado—have some of the highest melanoma rates.
- Men are more likely than women to develop melanoma, except under age 45, where women are at higher risk—likely due to tanning bed usage.
- Only 33% of men and 25% of women report using any sun protection.
- Just 22% of men and 40% of women use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher.
- At the current rate, melanoma cases are projected to rise to 151,000 annually by 2030—a jump from 97,000 today.
- Most sobering of all: Melanoma accounts for 75% of all skin cancer deaths.
Bottom Line
While TruAura doesn’t offer a sunscreen, you can still care for your skin by:
- Using our 4-Core Skincare system to strengthen and repair
- Layering with a foundation that includes mineral ingredients like titanium dioxide
- Choosing a clean, effective sunscreen recommended by trusted sources like Gary Jones
Let’s protect the skin we’re in—every day, all year long. 💛
